 GPAT - 2023

GPAT stands for Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test. It is a national level entrance exam conducted in India for admission to postgraduate pharmacy courses such as M. Pharma, M.S, and other similar programs. GPAT is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The exam tests the candidate's knowledge and aptitude in various areas of pharmacy, including pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmacognosy. The GPAT exam is held once a year, and the scores are used by various colleges and universities in India for admission to their postgraduate pharmacy programs.

 Exam Pattern

  • Exam Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Exam Duration: 180 minutes (3 hours)
  • Number of Questions: 125 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
  • Total Marks: 500
  • Marking Scheme: +4 marks for each correct answer, -1 mark for each wrong answer
  • Language: The question paper is available in English language only.

Sections: The GPAT exam consists of four sections, with 25 questions in each section.
The four sections of the GPAT exam are:
  • Pharmaceutics
  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry
  • Pharmacology
  • Pharmacognosy
The exam is designed to test the candidate's knowledge and aptitude in various areas of pharmacy. The questions are aimed at testing the candidate's conceptual understanding, analytical abilities, and problem-solving skills in these areas. The GPAT exam is held once a year, and the scores are used by various colleges and universities in India for admission to their postgraduate pharmacy programs.

GPAT SYALLABUS 2023

  • Pharmaceutics: Physical pharmacy, Pharmaceutical engineering, Microbiology in pharmacy, Dosage forms, Pharmaceutical jurisprudence.
  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry: Medicinal chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry.
  • Pharmacology: Pharmacology and Toxicology, Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry, Pathophysiology of Common Diseases, Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics.
  • Pharmacognosy: Traditional Herbal Drugs, Quality Control and Standardization of Herbal Drugs, Herbal formulations, Chemistry of Natural Products.
Apart from these core areas, the GPAT syllabus may also include topics like Biotechnology, Clinical Research, and Pharmaceutical Management, among others.

It is important to note that the GPAT syllabus is vast and covers a wide range of topics. Candidates are advised to study each topic in-depth, and also keep themselves updated with the latest developments and advancements in the field of Pharmacy.

Medium of Question Paper: 

The medium of Question Paper shall be in English only.

Eligibility:

  • Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • Educational Qualification: The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2, including lateral entry students) or an equivalent degree from a recognized university.
  • Appearing candidates: Final year students of Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2, including lateral entry students) or an equivalent degree course, who will be completing their final year examination before the admissions, are also eligible to apply.
  • Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear for the GPAT exam.
